A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT THE DESIGN:

In January, the idea for a group drawing project unlike any other was formed. A mash-up of 34 organic shapes were drawn in black and white surrounding the NoCo Arts & Cultural District logo. Once the shapes were drawn, a surprise assignment was given to 34 PEOPLE to COLLABORATE in DRAWING THIS PIECE! The Public Art Commissioners as well as the NoCo Arts Center Artists AND Friends of the NoCo Arts Center were tasked with drawing a creative creature within their assigned shape. They had to give it eyes, a mouth, pattern and a personality!
Why? The answer is simple! The NoCo Arts & Cultural District is forming and developing because of the creative culture in our community and surrounding areas. This creative culture consists of all of us and ALL OF US ARE CREATIVE CREATURES!
The current events surrounding us are encouraging us to use our creativity in so many ways in our personal lives… From how we go about our day, to how we interact with each other, to how we remain and retain our positivity.
The Jeffersonville Public Art Commission invites you to flex your creative creature muscles… This fanciful design is anything but ordinary, JUST LIKE YOU! It needs color, it needs a narrative, it needs sound, it needs form!
Join the creative creature contests! There are MANY ways to participate.... pick what interests YOU! Maybe that’s one category... maybe that’s all categories!
WHAT TO DO: Click on the full creative creature image (to the left). Print this FULL IMAGE at home! Make it amazing with color! You could use colored pencil, crayons, marker, gel pens (anything your heart desires)!

WHAT COULD I WIN? Best in each age group gets - $100 gift card to Prestons Art Supply Store! OVERALL winner gets their design printed on a large banner & displayed on the side of the NoCo Arts Center for ALL to see!

WHAT TO DO: Click on the full creative creature image (to the left). Decide which of the creative creatures from the design you will write about (could be several). BE SURE to include an image from the design so we know which creature(s) you are story telling about! Compose a short story (no longer than 800 words -IN THE FORM OF A PDF). Bring this creature(s) to LIFE! How will you tell their story? Let us get to know this creature by sharing a snapshot into the life of this creature(s)!

WHAT COULD I WIN? Best in each age group gets - $100 gift card to Carmicheal's Book Store! OVERALL winner gets their story published as a short story in the Evening News & Tribune Newspaper!

HOW WILL I KNOW? Winners will be contacted via email by May 27th
WHAT TO DO: Click on the full creative creature image (to the left). Decide which of the creative creatures from the design you will compose a short musical score about (could be several--- COULD BE ALL). BE SURE to include an image from the design so we know which character(s) you are composing music for! Compose music (no longer than three minutes - IN THE FORM OF AN MP3) thinking about the feel/personality of the creature and the overall design! Interesting noises, fantastical rhythms and imaginative compositional arrangements are a good place to start thinking!

MUSIC/SOUND CONTEST

SCULPTURE CONTEST

WHAT TO DO: Click on the full creative creature image (to the left). Decide which of the creative creatures from the design you will create into a three dimensional sculpture. BE SURE to include an image from the design so we know which creature you are sculpting! Sculpt the piece out of ANY material... could be clay, play dough, toothpicks, foam, mixed media, the sky's the limit! - take at least 4 pictures of the sculpture when submitting -- a picture of the front, left side, right side, back side and top). SCULPTURE must not exceed 8"x8"x12" in order to be made into a 3D replica!

WHAT COULD I WIN? Best in each age group gets - $100 gift card to design a custom class AND take that class at Maker 13! OVERALL winner gets their sculpture displayed in the window of the NoCo Arts Center AND created into a 3D replica at Maker 13!
