Jeffersonville Public Art Commission

stART Creating Ideas!

JPAC, established in 2012, exercises legal authority to approve and site new public art on property owned by the City of Jeffersonville. Site-specific artworks identify Jeffersonville as a place with ingenuity and a great capacity for innovation. These artworks, both permanent and temporary, ranging from traditional to new media. It is the conviction of JPAC that, in order to support a thriving artistic culture within the city, community involvement shall extend beyond everyday appreciation to meaningful engagement in the creation, evolving interpretation and ongoing care of artworks throughout Jeffersonville.

JPAC integrates art, cultural expression, and design excellence into the public space to provide meaningful experiences that define the City of Jeffersonville’s sense of place.

VISION

Jeffersonville Public Art Commission envisions Public Art creating positive experiences of Jeffersonville’s historic and contemporary culture throughout the fabric of the city.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Jeffersonville Public Art Commission aims to further the role of art and culture in the public realm by:

  • Creating New Public Art

  • Creating Knowledge About Public Art

  • Involving our community in meaningful engagement

JPAC'S ROLE 

  • Advise the community group or agency initiating a public art project on issues concerning the site, selection of a professional artist, and commission of public artwork.

  • Guide and monitor the design development process through reviews at various stages to ensure artistic and design quality, integration with the site, and relevance to the community.

  • Approve the final design prior to fabrication.

  • Create an authentic yearly program plan that includes various art experiences that are community-centric. 

  • Assist in the development and continued growth of the NoCo Arts & Cultural District
